The Recipe How-To

Once you have gathered all the ingredients, preheat your oven to 350°F. In a mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of vegan butter (such as Earth Balance) and ¾ cup of white granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Next, add in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and ¼ cup of unsweetened applesauce to the bowl. Mix everything together until it is well-incorporated.

In another mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ¾ teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt until the ingredients are evenly distributed.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture slowly, mixing as you add. You can use an electric mixer or a wooden spoon for hard work. Once combined, form the dough into two separate balls.

On a floured board or countertop, roll each ball out with a rolling pin until it is roughly ¼ inch thick. Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutters or a knife.

Place cookies on a greased baking sheet about 1 inch apart from each other. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.

Allow them to cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy your freshly baked and deliciously healthy vegan sugar cookies!

Dear readers, are you looking to personalize your vegan sugar cookie recipe? Perhaps add a new twist to classic flavor? Customize the recipe with variations and substitutions!

Firstly, let’s talk flour. The vegan sugar cookie recipe calls for a mix of white flour and whole wheat pastry flour. However, if you’re looking to avoid gluten or create a healthier option, feel free to substitute with almond flour or gluten-free flour. Be mindful that if using almond flour, the cookies may have a slightly denser texture.

Secondly, if you prefer a stronger cinnamon and vanilla taste, feel free to increase the measurements of these two ingredients in the recipe. On the other hand, if you’re not a fan of cinnamon or vanilla extract at all, try substituting with almond extract for a different twist in flavor.

Thirdly, the recipe calls for vegan butter and canola oil. But what if you don’t have any on hand? You can substitute the vegan butter with softened vegan margarine or even coconut oil. The canola oil doesn’t have a major impact on the flavor profile, so you can even substitute it with applesauce for an oil-free option.

Lastly, to add some extra sweetness to your cookies, replace white sugar with cane sugar or even maple syrup in moderation. For those who enjoy a little crunch in their cookies, sprinkle some chopped nuts or raisins on top before baking.

Remember that substitutions and variations are all about exploring different flavor combinations and preferences. Don’t be afraid to experiment and customize your perfect vegan sugar cookie recipe!

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

As an avid baker, I recognize that not everyone has time to bake fresh cookies all the time. Luckily, these vegan sugar cookies store exceptionally well and can be made ahead of time! To do so, simply place them into an airtight container or bag and keep them at room temperature. These cookies will keep for up to six days.

If you find yourself with too many cookies to eat within that timeframe, don’t worry! These cookies can also be frozen for up to three months. To reheat them, let the cookies come to room temperature and then warm them in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for a few minutes until they’re warm and gooey – trust me, you won’t even notice that they’ve been frozen!

To make the most out of these vegan sugar cookies, consider pairing them with your favorite toppings such as cinnamon or almond extract – or maybe even both! Alternatively, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not dip the cookies in melted chocolate or sprinkle them with crushed candy canes during the holidays?

Lastly, if you’re looking for a gluten-free option, consider swapping out traditional all-purpose flour for almond flour instead. Your cookies will have a slightly different texture but no less delicious.

Remember – baking is all about experimenting and finding what works best for you. So don’t be afraid to make these vegan sugar cookies your own!

To achieve perfect results when making vegan sugar cookies, here are some tips that can help ensure your cookies turn out soft and delicious every time.

The first tip is to use room temperature ingredients. This includes the vegan butter, applesauce, and almond milk. This ensures that all the ingredients mix well together, creating a smooth dough. Room temperature ingredients mix together better, creating a more even texture for the dough.

Another important tip is to choose the right type of flour. While white flour is commonly used in traditional sugar cookie recipes, using a combination of whole wheat pastry flour and white flour will give your vegan sugar cookies a better texture. Whole wheat pastry flour has a lower gluten content than regular whole wheat flour, which makes it ideal for baking cookies with a lighter texture.

When creaming the sugar and butter together, be sure to cream them thoroughly until light and fluffy. This helps create small pockets of air in the dough resulting in a lighter cookie.

Lastly, don’t overbake your vegan sugar cookies! Overbaking can cause the cookies to become too crispy and dry. Take them out of the oven just before they have completely set so that they can finish cooking while they cool down on the baking sheet.

By following these simple tips, you’ll surely achieve a perfect batch of soft and delicious vegan sugar cookies every time you bake!

Bottom Line

In conclusion, these vegan sugar cookies are a testament to the fact that vegan desserts can be just as delicious and satisfying as traditional ones. They are easy to make, with a short and simple ingredient list that is easy to modify based on personal preferences or dietary requirements.

Whether you’re vegan or not, this recipe is worth a try. Who knows, it might even become your new go-to recipe for sugar cookies. So next time you’re in the mood for something sweet, whip up a batch of these amazing vegan sugar cookies and enjoy every bite!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat pastry flour or 2 cups white flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar, preferably vegan
  • 1/2 cup white flour (for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup canola oil or 1/2 cup safflower oil
  • 3 -4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Mix together pastry flour, sugar, baking powder and cinnamon. In another bowl, whisk the applesauce, oil and vanilla together until well combined.
  • Pour wet ingredients into dry, and stir to mix. Then knead them into a dough. You may have to add some more flour or some of the white flour, to make it dry enough to roll out properly. (A bit sticky, of course, but not wet.)
  • Start preheating the oven, 300-350 degrees depending on the heat of your oven- ours is quite hot so I use a slightly lower temperature.
  • Roll out the dough (around 1/4 inches thickness) and grab some cookie cutters!
  • Bake on a nonstick or lightly oiled pan for about 10 minutes, till just barely golden brown on the bottom edges. They will be kinda crunchy if you bake them too much longer.
  • Decorate!
