These poppers are so tasty, even non-vegans will love them!

Now that we’ve covered why you’ll love this vegan jalapeno poppers recipe, let’s dive into how to make it. Despite the list of ingredients, trust me, making these stuffed peppers is quite easy. It’s just a matter of preparing each step and not getting overwhelmed with the number of ingredients involved.

Ingredients

To begin with, you will need to gather all the ingredients mentioned in (3) the ingredient list section. Ensure you have everything on hand and pre-measured.

Preparation

Start by slicing the jalapeño peppers in half lengthwise and remove any seeds or veins. Now imagine these halves as tiny canoes waiting to be filled with deliciousness!

The Filling

In a food processor, blend raw cashews, vegan cream cheese, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, and some freshly squeezed lemon juice until smooth. Once blended, transfer the mixture into a piping bag with a large open star tip.

Piping the cheese mixture into the jalapeño halves will ensure that every piece gets an equal amount of filling.

Stuffing and Breading

Pipe the mixture into each jalapeño half until fully filled. Next, mix together some breadcrumbs along with more nutritional yeast for an extra cheesy texture, and some 1 tablespoon of flour. Dip each stuffed pepper first in flour, then in non-dairy milk, and finally coat well with breadcrumb mixture.

You can choose to bake or air-fry your jalapeno poppers by following any of these two methods:

Baking:

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the breaded jalapeño poppers onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for approximately 20-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Air Fryer:

Alternatively, if you have an air fryer handy, place the breaded jalape̱o poppers in a single layer on a basket of an air fryer preheated at 375 F for about 10 Р12 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Whatever method you use will result in delicious vegan baked or air-fried jalapeno poppers that everyone can enjoy.

Don’t worry if your jalapeño poppers are not as crispy as you’d like them to be on their first try; practice makes perfect! And remember my motto when it comes to cooking: “The recipe is merely a suggestion.”

Substitutions and Variations

Dearest readers, allow me to present to you a few suggestions for substitutions and variations that can be made to this delightful vegan jalapeno poppers recipe. Whether you are looking to switch up the flavors or adapt the recipe for specific dietary needs, these options are sure to please.

Firstly, if you prefer a gluten-free option for the breading, you can substitute the breadcrumbs for almond flour or crushed cornflakes. Simply dust each jalapeno popper with your preferred gluten-free bread substitute before air-frying or baking to crispy perfection.

For those who are allergic or intolerant to cashews but still desire that creamy texture in this delicious recipe, fret not! You can substitute the raw cashews with soaked and peeled sunflower seeds or blanched almonds. These make a great alternative for anyone looking for a nut-free option.

For the cheese filling, instead of using vegan cream cheese, you can experiment with different brands of vegan cheese to find one that suits your tastes. From smoky cheddar to tangy gouda, feel free to mix and match the perfect cheeses to make your favorite flavor combos.

If you’re feeling adventurous and want a little kick in these jalapeño poppers, add some diced pineapple onto the filling mixture. This sweet and spicy combo is sure to thrill your taste buds.

Lastly, if you want a crispy outer layer without using breadcrumbs or flour, coat each jalapeño popper with a thin layer of seasoned cornmeal or coconut flakes that have been finely crushed in a food processor.

I do hope these substitutions and variations will inspire you to get creative in the kitchen and make this easy vegan jalapeño poppers recipe truly your own.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

You won't believe these poppers are vegan until you try one!
You won’t believe these poppers are vegan until you try one!

My dear friends, I understand the importance of preparing ahead of time to counter the rush of the moment. These vegan jalapeno poppers can be made ahead and stored for later use in your refrigerator or freezer.

To make them ahead of time, follow the recipe instructions until step 7, then let them cool down to room temperature. Pack them in an airtight container, and keep them in your refrigerator for 3-4 days or in your freezer up to 3 months. To reheat them, you may use an oven or microwave.

If using an oven, preheat it to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the poppers on a baking sheet and bake for around 10-12 minutes if they are thawed, or around 20-25 minutes if they are frozen.

If using a microwave, microwave them until hot through and through by first heating for about 45 seconds, checking and stirring and then heating again for another 45 seconds.

However, I must advise that reheating them in a microwave oven may compromise their texture. Therefore, my recommendation is to use an air fryer at a temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit for around 5 minutes.

Do not forget to relish this vegan delicatessen with ease as you fancy!

Tips for Perfect Results

Say hello to your new favorite appetizer: vegan jalapeno poppers.

As a vegan chef, I always strive for perfection in every dish that I create. When it comes to making jalapeño poppers, there are a few tips and tricks that can help you achieve the perfect results every time. Here are some tips that will make your vegan jalapeño poppers unbelievably delicious.

1. Don’t skip soaking the cashews

Soaking the cashews is an essential step in this recipe as it helps to create the creamy vegan filling for your jalapeño poppers. Make sure to soak your raw cashews for at least 4 hours or overnight before using them in this recipe. The longer you soak, the creamier your filling will be!

2. Mix up the spices

While this recipe calls for garlic powder and onion powder, don’t be afraid to experiment with other spices like paprika or cumin. These spices can add additional layers of flavor to your vegan cream cheese filling.

3. Use bread crumbs for extra crunch

If you want your jalapeño poppers to have an extra crunch, try using bread crumbs as a coating before air-frying or baking them. You can use gluten-free bread crumbs if you’re looking for a gluten-free option.

4. Choose the right vegan cream cheese

Not all vegan cream cheeses are created equal, so make sure to choose one that is thick and creamy for the best results. Tofutti is my personal favorite brand that I use in this recipe, but you can use any vegan cream cheese that you prefer.

5. Slice jalapeños uniformly

When slicing your jalapeños, make sure to slice them lengthwise and remove all seeds for a milder taste. To ensure uniformity in size, you can use a mandolin slicer.

6. Serve hot and spicy!

Jalapeño poppers are meant to be served hot and spicy! Enjoy them straight out of the oven or air-fryer with some vegan sour cream or guacamole on top.

Follow these tips and tricks to get perfect results every time with this easy and delicious vegan jalapeño poppers recipe!
