Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) before preparing the Vegan Asparagus Phyllo Rolls Recipe. This ensures your oven is at the right temperature before the phyllo rolls go in.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

In a food processor, combine 1 bunch of asparagus, 2 cups of walnuts, and some salt, pepper, garlic powder and tarragon. Blitz until nuts and asparagus are chopped and mixed well.

Step 3: Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Take a package of phyllo dough and place one sheet on a clean workspace. Brush it with some melted butter or oil to ensure it stays together throughout the baking process.

Step 4: Fill and Roll up with Asparagus

Next, place down some asparagus spears on top of the phyllo dough. Roll up tightly like a burrito or sushi roll.

Step 5: Brush with Canola Oil

Once you have rolled up all your phyllo wrapped asparagus, brush each one with some canola oil or olive oil generously. This keeps them moist and helps them brown beautifully.

Step 6: Bake in the Oven

Place all phyllo wrapped asparagus rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake them for about 20 minutes at 375°F (190°C) until they are completely golden brown.

Serve hot fresh out of the oven with some vegan cheese or cream cheese dip, if desired. Enjoy your delicious Vegan Asparagus Phyllo Rolls.

Are you looking to change up the flavors and ingredients in this vegan Asparagus Phyllo Rolls recipe? Fear not, as there are plenty of substitutions and variations that can elevate this dish even further.

Firstly, if you’re not a fan of asparagus or would like to try something different, you can replace the asparagus spears with other vegetables such as thinly sliced zucchini or bell peppers. Adding some baby spinach leaves or roasted sweet potato cubes would also provide some added texture and nutrition.

If you’re looking to add some depth to the flavor profile, consider adding some chopped sun-dried tomatoes or caramelized onions into the filling mixture. You could also swap out the garlic powder for some minced fresh garlic or sprinkle in some red pepper flakes for a touch of heat.

For those who are nut-free, it’s possible to omit the walnuts from the recipe entirely or substitute them with seeds such as sunflower or pumpkin seeds instead.

If you’d like to experiment with different types of pastry dough, you could try swapping out the phyllo dough with puff pastry instead. This would result in a more buttery and flaky texture but keep in mind that puff pastry is not vegan unless you purchase one made without dairy products.

For an extra twist, try wrapping the asparagus spears with prosciutto slices before wrapping them in phyllo dough. Alternatively, topping each roll with a dollop of creamy cashew cheese would make for a delicious variation to this recipe.

Don’t be afraid to get creative with your substitutions and have fun experimenting with various flavors and ingredients. Who knows what amazing culinary masterpiece you might create?

One of the best things about these vegan asparagus phyllo rolls is that they can be prepared ahead of time, making them perfect for dinner parties or gatherings. If you want to prepare these rolls in advance, follow the recipe as directed until you get to the baking step. Instead of baking, place the rolls on a baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap. You can store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking.

Once you are ready to bake, remove the rolls from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for 15-20 minutes. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the rolls until they are golden brown and crispy, about 20-25 minutes.

If you have leftover asparagus phyllo rolls, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When reheating, place them on a baking sheet and cover lightly with foil. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 10-12 minutes or until warmed through.

These rolls are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven, but if you need to reheat leftovers, be sure not to overdo it as they may dry out. If you’re short on time or don’t want to prep ahead, consider freezing your phyllo wrapped asparagus instead! These freeze well for up to 2 months when wrapped securely in plastic wrap and stored in an airtight container in the freezer. Just remember to thaw them completely before reheating!

To ensure that your vegan asparagus phyllo rolls turn out perfectly, here are some tips to keep in mind:

Firstly, when working with phyllo dough, it’s essential to keep it moist. Cover the unrolled pastry sheets with a damp cloth while working on each sheet so that the dough doesn’t become brittle and dry.

Secondly, before rolling the asparagus spears with the phyllo dough, make sure they are trimmed and of equal size. This will ensure even cooking and that all rolls are uniform in shape.

Thirdly, brushing each sheet of phyllo dough with canola oil gives the rolls a crisp texture and golden brown color. Make sure to brush both sides of the dough and layer gently.

Fourthly, seasoning the asparagus filling well is important for a burst of flavors. I recommend using garlic powder, salt, pepper, and tarragon for added depth.

Fifthly, adding walnuts to the filling adds a delicious crunch to each bite. Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until fragrant before adding them to the filling.

Lastly, make sure to bake the rolls in preheated oven that’s at 375°F for about 15-20 minutes or until crispy and golden brown on top. This ensures that the phyllo dough becomes perfectly crisp without being overly browned or undercooked.

By following these tips carefully, you’ll have perfectly cooked vegan asparagus phyllo rolls every time!

With simple and easy-to-find ingredients, you can create a mouthwatering appetizer or side dish that will impress your family and guests. Vegan Asparagus Phyllo Rolls Recipe

These rolls can be great for an appetizer, side, or as a main course with a crisp salad. The seasonings work very well with the asparagus, and the walnuts give it almost a meaty bite and mellow flavor. They are a bit labor-intensive, but well worth the effort.

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1 bunch asparagus
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, coarsely ground
  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder
  • tarragon

Instructions

  • Snap off the ends of the asparagus and rinse. Place into a large pan and pour in enough water to almost cover. Cover, with the lid vented. Place over medium heat until the water begins to boil. Close the lid completely and turn down the heat. Steam for 2-5 minutes, until bright green and tender-crisp. Take off the heat and drain.
  • Open the package of phyllo dough and lay onto a flat surface. Cover with plastic wrap and place a damp paper towel or wash cloth on top.
  • Pulse the walnuts in a food processor until coarsely chopped.
  • Heat the oil in a small sauce pan over medium heat for 3 minutes, until hot. Preheat the oven to 375 and grease a baking sheet.
  • Take a sheet of phyllo dough and brush with oil. Place another sheet on top and brush again. Make it 3-4 layers thick.
  • Take 3-4 asparagus stalks and stack them in a pyramid at the end of the phyllo dough that is closest to you. Sprinkle with walnuts, and a bit of the pepper, salt, garlic powder and tarragon.
  • Begin to roll it all up in the dough. Stop after every rollover and brush the dough with more oil, and close the ends up as you roll. It should resemble a large egg roll. Seal up the end of the sheets with oil and place on the greased pan. Brush the top with oil so it doesn’t dry out.
  • Repeat this with the dough and asparagus until it is all used up. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes and slice diagonally into thirds. Serve over a salad, or arranged on a platter as an appetizer.
